The Answers

Who owns this site?
This site is owned by Greg Sue.

Why was this site set up?
Originally, I just wanted to find others to ride with.

Is there any fee to use this site?
No, use of this site is free.

Why can't I access the discussion forums or chat room?
The forums and chat room use cookies; if your browser isn't set to allow cookies, you won't be able to access these features. Cookies are used to keep you logged in during your visit, and for marking new posts.

Why don't your email links work?
Email links have been disabled in the main site to defeat spambots. To send an email, type the email address as it's spelled out, replace "at" with "@" and "dot" with ".", and no spaces of course. We strongly recommend that you also write your email address in this fashion when you're posting in the forums. ie. if your email address is myname@domain.com, write it as myname at domain dot com.

What are the forum user rankings?
Ranks are based on post count.
     1: First Post!
     2: New Member
     20: Road Rash
     50: Road Warrior
     100: Mud Slinger
     250: Hill Climber
     500: Trail Rider
     1000: Technical Rider
Subject to change at whim!
There are also custom rankings issued by the Site Admin, and additional rankings beyond Technical Rider. Custom rankings are usually based on something you've done on the trail or on the site. These rankings are bestowed by the Site Administrator and cannot be requested.

I thought this site was "ATVing in Southwestern BC"?
It was when it was first started on May 12/03. It was changed to "ATVing in British Columbia" on June 19/03 after requests from some of the members, to encourage riders from other areas of the province to participate in the site and further contribute to its growth.

Why can't I see or view some of the forums?
Some forums are hidden to "Guests". Once you've logged on, all forums will be visible.

Where can I find more specific info about using the forums and private messaging?
Specific info on logging in, preferences and settings, posting messages, and private messaging are located in the Forum FAQ.

Can dealers post their used quads and accessories in the "Trading Post" section of the forums?
Yes. This is limited to USED items only.
There is also a forum called "Wheeler Dealers", for announcements by ATV dealers and ATV parts and accessory retailers, for notification of sale events, new model arrivals, new products, etc. The use of this forum is free.

Why doesn't my auto-logon work?
Occasionally after some background work is done on the site, the way the cookies are handled gets changed. You will have to clear the cookies in your browser to be able to log on again. In MSIE, this is done by clicking Tools - Internet Options - Delete Cookies (or similar, depending on your version of MSIE). This only affects you if you have auto-logon enabled.

Will you host forums for my ATV club or group?
Yes; as long as your ATV club or group is non-profit, Quads.ca will host your discussion forum(s) for free. A number of privacy options are available; ie. open to all, members only, readable by all but posting by members only, etc. You can even link directly to your forums from your website, if you have one. Just send a PM to Greg to get it set up.

Why did my username get deleted?
Users who register solely to post a link to their non-ATV or non-ATV-related commercial website are considered spammers and are deleted without warning. "Solely" means you have not participated in the forums. If you think you've been deleted in error, send an email to "info at quads dot ca" with the pertinent details. For examples of ATV-related sites, please view our Resource Directory. Sites which will guarantee immediate username deletion include but are not limited to links-only sites, pharmaceutical sites, gambling sites, adult sites, hate sites, and any site deemed unsuitable for our members.

Why is my IP address range, or mail server, or mail domain banned?
Certain IP address ranges, mail servers, and mail domains have been banned or blocked because they've been repeatedly used by people or bots who register solely to spam the site. Spamming is NOT permitted. This generally only affects registrations from outside North America. Some free email services such as Yahoo (and Yahoo-owned domains) are blocked because Yahoo does not accept email sent from Quads.ca, so you'd never receive the verification email when you first registered. Some free domains such as Gmail and Hotmail are blocked because they are constantly used by spammers, and it's just easier banning the domains than deleting all of the spammer registrants and their posts every day. Some free domains may be temporarily blocked because they are "currently" being used by spammers; usually they will be unblocked when the spammers move on to a different domain. Your best bet is to use your ISP-issued email address. If your only email address is in the "banned" list, send an email to "info at quads dot ca" and I can set up account for you manually (unless it's a Yahoo-owned address). Include some ATV-related text about yourself so I know you aren't a spammer.

Can I change my username?
No, but the Site Administrator can do it for you. Send a PM to Greg if you'd like it changed, and include your reason for changing it. Requests sent via email are not accepted.

Why didn't I receive the confirmation email after registering?
It's usually because you've typed your email address incorrectly. Sometimes it occurs because your email server was down when the automated email was sent. Some "free" email servers such as Hotmail are known for being unreliable. Others such as Yahoo do not accept email sent from Quads.ca unless the Quads.ca domain has been previously entered as an accepted domain. You might try a different email address such as the one assigned to you by your ISP. The confirmation email is sent immediately; if you do not receive it within a few minutes, you can send an email to "info at quads dot ca" with the pertinent details. If you are using a free email service, check your Junk folder.

Why do my photos in the galleries have a slightly different colour tint than how I submitted them?
Some photos have been colour-balanced and adjusted for contrast and clarity.

Why can't I view the gallery photos?
The photos open in a new window; if you have a "pop-up blocker" installed, it will close the new window. Try adding Quads.ca to your exceptions list, or turning your pop-up blocker off. If that doesn't work, check to make sure you do not have multiple pop-up blockers running (ie. in your browser, in your ISP-supplied software, and in a 3rd-party software package). A pop-up blocker will also prevent the PM-notification window and Chat window from working. Quads.ca does not serve pop-up ads of any sort.

The fonts are too small; how can I change the size?
If you are using MS-Internet Explorer, click View - Text Size, then select one of the larger sizes. This will not work for all pages. Other browsers will have a similar setting; Firefox should allow you to resize the text on any of the pages.

Can I send spam to your users, or can I spam your forums?
No, we do NOT want to receive spam of any sort. Spamming will get you and your IP address banned, and will also result in your email address and the email addresses of everyone related to your domain name/website added to my blacklist, which gets spidered daily. Spamming includes signing up solely to post a link to your non-ATV or non-ATV-related commercial website.

Why do I no longer receive email notifications for PMs or Watched Topics?
Generally this happens when the email address you originally signed up with is no longer in use by you and you haven't updated your Profile (ie. you registered with yourname@telus.net and you changed your ISP from Telus to Shaw), or your email server is rejecting email sent from Quads.ca (ie. you have a Yahoo account).

Is Quads.ca a club?
No, Quads.ca is not a club. It is just a website, usable by any ATV rider, regardless of status or affiliation. Quads.ca does host forums for various ATV clubs, but you do not have to be a club member to use the services of Quads.ca.

How do I complain about your site?
Sorry, we do not have a complaint department.

What are the legal requirements for riding an ATV in BC?
At this time, licensing and registration of your ATV is not required. To ride on a Forest Service Road (FSR), you are required to have a valid driver's license and $200000 third-party liability insurance coverage. There are no requirements for riding non-FSR's, but the onus is on YOU to know whether or not the road you are on is a FSR.
