Post King Quad 450 Mods
Hi all just joined the forum and I am hoping for suggetions for mods to do the king quad. I am looking for front and/or rear storage and i have heard that clutch kits are a good idea( what do they do?). I already put on 25 inch mud lights those are awesome. Im thinking of a front bumper. Thanks

the only real benifitt a clutch kit would give you is recouping some of the lost power from adding tires that were 28 or 29.5 inch
the clutch kit just engages the clutch at a higher rpm and in doing so you lose top speed

as for storage someone else has got to answer that one for ya

Yeah, I got the same quad and am new at utility quads so I would like some info on this topic as well. Here's what I've done so far

I got the extended warranty in the deal instead of the winch so I bought the warn 2500 winch cash and installed it
Replaced stock tires with 26" bear claws
Got a front bumper for a pretty good deal (200 out the door)but I don't know what make it is?? It's pretty well made, has space for the winch rope to come out and has headlight protecting bars
Put in a K&N filter and have the drycharger on order
Just ordered off of Ebay a full aluminum skid plate kit for the kq 700/450 for 327 cdn shipped!!!! That kit from holeshot would have cost me at least double if not more than that if I bought suzuki parts! Won't see it for a couple of weeks though

Now I just gotta find time to ride it! I work too much it only has 20 hours on it, and I only put 3 of those on!

Does anyone have any advice on good boxes or bags for the utility quads? I want to hunt with this so I don't know if I want to use one of those 2 up seat/boxes. What do you think of the soft bags, are they good?

I changed the filter on mine right away as well went with the uni foam oil bath filter supposed to be better than a dry filter. I bought the quadrax seat box for my KQ and I hated it cheap and crappy. Upgraded to the Wes Industries seat box way better built. I decided on the Perfex Poly Skid Plate $160 here in PG. I got the fender protectors and foot pegs coming. First set of tires I got were mud lites(dont like em) got a set of Bighorns coming. If you want pics of the new seat box Ill try and post them when i get home from camp. I looked at the EPI clutch kit i think its to much money for what you get no secondary spring in the kit just wet springs and rollers for about $250 ish. I am going to try a mod I found on another site to give it better bottom end costs about $10. If you dont want the seat box there are a ew choices i found that look good made by Kimpex. I hope this helps im new too lol.

Roughcountry has a decent-looking bumper on his KQ; I don't remember what brand it is but when he gets back from Logan Lake/Kamloops/Larson Hill I'm sure he'll tell us. If Aaron from Motorcycle World reads this, he'll know which one it is.

Post decent bumper for KQ
:D I was looking around Quadraxatv.com and noticed a pretty good bumper for the KingQuad that protects the lights and the grille well...if I'd gone with the KQ it's the one I'd have bought...

Ouch! You might want to reconsider that sale if you can. It's not the best deal out there.

Here is a view of the rear skid from those eBay skid plate sets. Note that the skidplate itself is paper thin and doesn't even conform to the shape of the King Quad's frame, which arcs up at the rear. This one continues straight, just bending up a bit on the main skid (no problem for it as there is no stiffening side gusset!) and there is no attempt to reinforce the mounting tab at the rear. There are just two tabs folded up from the main plate. The rear of the plate is flat, forming a nice convenient tray for stowing your rock collection. You can see that this guy has pushed the skidplate up and drilled new holes for the rear mounting bolts, giving him a bit less of a tray than as supplied. Even so, look a the way the rear of the King Quad frame goes up and that wierd-[ censored ] skidplate just keeps going straight back. Did the guy let his 9 year old kid design it?
Note too that the rear cross view shows no fold or gusset. Do you think that tissue thin aluminum sheet is going to support the weight of a 600 pound quad plus rider and gear when you are sliding along a rock? :D

and here is a view of a rather dirty Pro-Armor aluminum skid, same piece. Note the thickness of the material and that it is welded into a boxed configuration giving it strength, that it conforms to the shape of the King Quad rear frame (It actually conforms to the frame's shape. What an idea!) and that it has cross bracing, inset to clear the trailer ball mount. It is evident which one has had more care in making and design.
This is just an example of how that stuff from the eBay guy is made. The rest of his skidplate set is are similar in quality. Canit fault the guy for trying to make a buck but man, in this case you really DO get what you pay for.
That guy on eBay is selling dog food. Just my opinion...

But you don't have to pay TWICE as much for good skids.
There is an outfit in Virginia, Atlas Honda, Yamaha (etc.) Atlas that sells the complete Pro Armor set with all the installation brackets etc., SHIPPING INCLUDED to the continental U.S., for about $389.00 U.S., not much more than that eBay tinfoil that the guy wants money to ship. Ask for Chris in Parts.
You can have the Pro Armor set sent to Ship Happens or Package Express in Sumas and then go get it for just a few dollars.

I've seen the Pro Armor skids on Roughcountry's King Quad, and I can vouch that they're definitely tough and well-built. Looks like Glenlivet's tried them both; you can benefit from his experience and expertise.

Thanks Greg. I got that pic of the ATV with the eBay skids from another guy online. My KQ is never as clean as that first one. :D

I just fired off an email to them demanding them to cancel the order and not ship the parts to me. Hopefully I don't have to mess around with filing grievances with paypal or anything like that regarding these crappy skid plates. I don't think they have shipped yet or I would have gotten an email or something stating that. If they do get to me, what should I do in your opinion, just ship em back and take it up with paypal or something???? Anyone ever got burned on ebay and dealt with it??

That's the ones alright. The link didn't work but I copied the auction number and pasted it on eBay.

Wish I could help but I have no experience in cancelling a completed auction on eBay. There are message groups however that you can access from 'my ebay'.

The front bumper on my King quad is a Elite , part # 15-8423w .
And the skid plates are Pro Armor ,and they came from Atlas like Glenlivit said couldn't get the same price in canada.
