So, I am curious what kind of safety equipment y'all are wearing for your rides.
I currently run a helmet, the ATV boots, and a roost deflector for my chest and back(Moto-X Jerseys and pants to complete the look lol).
What do other people use?

I use the same gear plus elbow pads and shin pads-A lot of people don't use shin pads,I do because my son had a branch go through the front upper and lower fender and put a 3" hole in the outside meaty part of his shin.My son had forgotten to put the first aid kit back into the quad,so all we had was a 1/2 roll of toilet paper and a plastic grocery bag to control the bleeding for the 1 hr ride back to the trucks and to the hospital for 15 stitches.

Summer I wear M/C boots, love the ankle support, and they have saved me several times. Winter, wet riding, I wear steel toed Surrels, great for the muck. The leather M/C boots just take too long to dry, even under a boot dryer. I am currently in the market for a chest protector, I stole my sons for the last ride but it was too small for me and drove me nut's all day. Elbow pads may be on the shopping list also.

Helmut goggles gloves mx boots and body armor. I went with the body armor over the chest protector because its a zip up and has built it shoulder guards, elbow guards, and a spine board (Which I honestly never attach to the set) I winter i wear my hunting boots for riding becase they are thinsulated and waterproof.

Right on. I went witht he roost deflector (Thor Sentinel) because I don't like the constricted feel of shoulder pads. Elbow pads may join my set though. It is jsut like one of them kevlar vests the police use

I know I have had lots of good luck with Thor. A lot of people I know like Alpine Star or Shift. I don't hear much good about Fox or other brands

Here you go:

I have have a Fox chest protector and like it. It's made from flexible black plastic, not the brittle clear stuff. The method it uses to fasten the front to the back is via a buckle at each end of two straps, rather than a single strap that hooks directly into the plastic like the Thor I used to have. I think this is a stronger design.

Perfect! Thanks Greg!
Normally you hear good and bad about every brand, but I didn't talk to the right people about Fox to hear your side, I guess.
A lot of the reviews for this equipment may have to do with riding style too? Like if you ride hard and fast and crash a lot and break it, then you learn to ride more responsibly for your next set, which gives the illusion of it being better, but in reality you aren't subjecting it to the same abuse

My body armour is Konker brand (which if any one knows anything, is a brand of chinese knock off atvs) I picked it up for 80 bux a few years ago near the old holeshot in langley. It may be a cheaper brand but it has saved me on numerous occasions. if it weren't for the elbow and shoulder pads i would have busted my shoulder and arm last summer.

Post Re: Safety Gear
Up til yesterday I figured hiking boots were good enough for my feet and legs.
Was vacationing up at Osprey Lake with the kids and leading a tour of some of the better trails. Roughrider was following me and leading 5 other bikes when he was suddenly gone in a dip on the 16" Lake trail. Clipped a tree with his handlebar, rolled the quad on his leg at least once. Interesting strapping his quad to mine and having him on the back with a crunched leg to get out to civilization. :uhh:
Xrays in Princeton showed nothing broken but sprained ankle and blunt force trama to the front and rear of his shin. MX boots that I bought him 2 years ago were too small at the last minute for this trip. Figure that those boots would have saved his leg , the rest of our vacation and the start of his football season. Can only imaging what the weight of mine could do. Time to take a look at boots.

I am looking at the SIDI Discovery Raw boots, they are somewhat expensive but they are the only fully waterproof/resistant MX boot out there. Plus all the parts are fully replaceable.

Yesterday was my first chance to try out my new Body Armour. (Six Six One compression suit), where the arm and elbow pads are part of the suit. I was worried that It was going to take quite some getting used too but I LOVED it the first day out. I was originally going with just the chest protector but as an Elbow is still tender from a couple weeks back ride (handle bar snapped back violently and clipped it). I was looking to get some Elbow pads also. That's what led to the compression suit. Very comfortable, breathes really well and the pads and spine board stay put. I also swear by MX boots, as mine have saved me from at least two broken ankles to date.

I'm liking the looks of these. My local dealer carries SiDi boots so I will check on pricing next week.
Thanx
