Explorers' 2006 Year-End Camp-Out and BBQ

Coquihalla Area

Oct 13-15/06

Written by TheHouse

The Explorers ATV Club hosted a Halloween-themed camp-out and BBQ for members and friends at Carolin Mine Road, north of Hope.

What a great weekend!

Thanks to everyone that came out for our first ever year end camp-out. The weather co-operated with the rain holding of until late Saturday night which was nice!

There were approx. 50 club members & friends camped at Carolin Mines with another 10+ showing up for the day on Saturday.

Saturday included 3 rides...

1) Led by Dan & Terry left at 9am to complete a 180 km loop from Carolin Mines over West & East Anderson to about 15 kms from Boston Bar & then on to Murray Lake. From there it's across the Coquihalla Hwy. on to the pipeline, KVR & Trans Canada trail back to the campsite. By all reports a great time was had by all with 1 minor rollover (no injuries). The riders arrived back in camp just in time for dinner around 5:30pm.

2) Led by TheHouseWife left around 11am up to Carolin Mine site & then on to the top of the mine shaft. From there it was a trip into the West Anderson apline area with a slightly technical side trip for those who were interested. This seemed to by the highlight for a couple of the younger riders (Ben & Matt) as they had smiles from ear to ear when they got back. A lot of the riders on this trip had never been up to the mine shaft either so they were quite impressed as well.

3) Led by Bambam also left around 11am up to Thalia lake & back (160 kms round trip). We started this ride with 5 machines but about 10 kms into it Rumrunner ran into problems with a broken rear drive shaft u-joint. The drive shaft didn't come completely apart so he & his lovely wife Legally Blonde had to turn back. With only 3 machines this ride went very quick at 2-1/2 hours up to the lake & 2 hours back to camp!

The kids had a blast with all the planned activities....
Face Painting (Thanks to Delea)... Coloring / Pumpkin Decorating Table (Thanks DollHouse & Butterfly Girl)... Goodie Bags (Thanks TheHouseWife, DollHouse, Butterfly Girl, Ben)... The Piņatas were a huge hit.... no pun intended  (Thanks Jeannie)

Dinner went very well with lots of help from various parties.

The prep work was handled by TheHouseWife, Legally Blonde & Jeannie.

The cooking duties were looked after by Singleton (on the BBQ doing Hamburgers), Paul Mitchell & Canucklehead handled the fried onions & hot dogs. Amazingly there was not a single report of food poisoning!

Salads were supplied by TKO, Sherry (Bruce's other half) & TheHouseWife.

There were lots of other goodies donated or supplied by the club.

Sorry if I've missed anyone but it was a whirlwind!

Thanks to all of you that donated your time to the cause in what ever form it was. Without all the help we received from everyone this event would not of been nearly as successful as it was.

Last but certainly not least thanks to all of you club members & friends for showing up because without you guys & gals there would not be a club or such great times to be shared!

Sincerely,

Mike "TheHouse" House
