Septimus Creek Trail Maintenance

Fort St John area

August 21/04

Written and photographed by Joebear

Some of us went out on Saturday, Aug 21 to do some trail maintenance and to build a bridge over a small creek (Septimus, I think). It isn't too deep but some of the smaller bikes (kids) would definitly have trouble crossing it. It took us several hours to build the bridge, starting with 2 logs cut from a tree that was downed across the trail. Once the logs were in place, the planks were placed, and 2x10's were nailed along the sides. Stakes were pounded into the soft mud to hold the logs in place so hopefully they won't wash out. We built up the approach to meet the planks and shoveled some dirt into the holes on the other side to help some bikes head up the hill. On the way back we cleared several trees from the trail as well.
