Indian Arm Ride

On Wednesday June 14, ten riders met in Squamish on the Indian Arm / Mamquam River FSR. Goal to ride across to Indian Arm and return. This ride was advertised as a beginner ride and no "bush pushing" (which I apparently have a reputation to do).

Weather was cool, looked like it was raining at higher elevations.

All parked and ready to ride, all departed and headed up along the Indian Arm FSR around 9:30 am. The gate is closed at the Mamquam FSR leading to the Indian Arm FSR, but there is a trail leading through the bushes to get on to the other side of the gate.

First stop was at the lookout overlooking Stawamus Chief and the Howe Sound and Squamish River Valley.

The road past this point looks passable now as it appears someone has spent time digging out a bit to allow an ATV to pass. The trail leads to the water source above Shannon Falls. I have never been there but am keen to return there to explore that part of the trail.

Back to Indian Arm FSR and continue south. At the saddle before heading south down in Indian Arm, one of the riders damaged her tire's sidewall. Six tire plugs later and air now being held in the tire we are all good to continue. Just past the pond at the saddle we found hard snow. Hard enough to allow the quads to stay on top.

Continued over the saddle and down the hill. The first bridge down the hill has been repaired to allow vehicle traffic compared to over a year ago the south end of the bridge was washed out and only ATV or smaller vehicle could pass.

At the bottom of this hill the bridge is completely washed out. A traverse of the creek allowed us to continue on to Indian Arm.

I knew a spot to stop along the way (around the 13 km mark I believe) where you can walk out on some rocks and view the river rushing over the rocks. At this time of year was not as spectacular as what I have seen later in the year when the water batters it way through the rocks. Right now the water flows over and not as spectacular.

Final push out to Indian Arm. Fifty some odd kms later. At Indian Arm had lunch on a spit close to the wharf.

After lunch and now refreshed headed back taking the turn off to Norton lake. Viewed the lake and because of the elevation gain found precipitation... a little wet. Came back down to the Indian River valley bottom where it was dry.

On the way back stopped at the river's edge after turning off the main road. Nice few moments to enjoy mother nature.

Back on the FSR and back over the saddle to the trucks.

Back to the trucks around 5 pm. Eight of us then decide to go for dinner to avoid rush hour traffic. Dinner was at Boston Pizza, Garibaldi Highlands (located between Squamish and Brackendale).
