Float SomeCoquihalla AreaMay/04 Written by Ozark Girl Four quadding friends decided to take a ride up around the Coquihalla Lakes, it was the end of May. Snow in upper elevations was quite possible. We unloaded our quads (2 Bombardier Rallys and 2 Kawasaki's) at Falls Lake, and headed out around the toll booth. We decided to see if we could make it up to the snowmobile cabin at the top of Mt Henning. We didn't make it as there was too much snow, so we went back down and checked to see if we could cross the Coquihalla River; this is where is got interesting! We looked up and down the river for a shallow spot. We decided on a spot that looked shallow enough (now remember... dark water means deep water). Owen had made it across fine, making sure he told all of us to follow exactly where he went, so we started to follow his path. The first part into the creek was a little steep and then we had to make a right turn to go up the creek, otherwise risk going into deep water. The next rider went and did not follow exactly where we were told to follow, and you guessed it! She went into deep water and slowly started floating down the river. We told her to stay on the quad so as not to risk the quad tipping over. Owen tried to pull her quad out with his quad, but with tires spinning on the wet rocks and not a good place to move, we decided to use man/woman power and towed her to safety! She ended up soaking wet, with hurt pride! Moral of the story... do not go into deep water and always follow instructions from your leader! |
