Looking Out for Sunrise Lake

Harrison Area

March 27/05

Written by Paul Mitchell

The first Lower Mainland ATV Club ride was scheduled for Easter Sunday, and also was in conflict with the Oregon sand dunes trip. Consequently the turnout was quite low. Four of us to be exact! Bruce and I were first to arrive at the hatchery parking lot at 8:00 am, and Dave ("Bambam") and Jeannie arrived in their new truck a little later. We headed up the Harrison West FSR towards Sunrise Lake. We took a trail down to Harrison Lake; we crossed several creeks, and along the way we spotted two deer in a clearing.

After that, we headed up to Sunrise Lake; the trail was about a 3-4 rating with several deep water holes. After lunch, we took a different fork about 200 meters from the lake that exited on to a fresh logging road. We thought it kind of odd, as some people said there was a bad section to get past before you get to the lake, so we figured there had to be another way in. After this, we spent the rest of the day exploring the many trails and FSRs in the area, and arrived back at the trucks around 4:00 pm.

Later that evening Mike ("The House") sent some photos of their trip to Sunrise Lake on Friday, and it became obvious that we were not where we thought! It turns out that we were at Lookout Lake. Which is not a bad thing, as now we have another destination to get to, that being the real Sunrise Lake. The last photos are of Mike, Owen ("Oweee"), and Barb ("Ozark Girl"), on a rock face on the trail to Sunrise.
